Thinking about putting your home on the market anytime soon? Does your property need a little pick-me-up first? How does your kitchen stack up against the competition? While granite was the go-to choice for homeowners in the past, many of today’s buyers desire something different. Before you spend thousands on a huge slab of granite, consider these current countertop trends for your Havasu kitchen remodel.
Current Countertop Trends
Quartz
One of the most popular current countertop trends is quartz. A sturdier option to granite, quartz isn’t porous. So, it holds up much better to stains. And let’s face it, it gets pretty messy when preparing meals. Its heat-resistant surface allows you to go directly from stovetop to countertop in one fell swoop, too, without burning. With white or two-tone kitchens also trending, quartz offers a wide variety of color choices to complement your cabinets. Cost (including installation): $25-$100 per square foot.
Paperstone
Many of today’s buyers look for eco-friendly materials in homes. Another one of the current countertop trends that meet these criteria is paperstone. Manufacturers utilize recycled papers and top it with a non-petroleum resin. As a non-porous material, it also stands up well to spills and offers a heat-resistant surface for hot items. Cost (including installation): $55-$100 per square foot.
Soapstone
Soapstone offers another alternative to granite and falls in line with current countertop trends. While it also stands up to hot pots and pans, the surface tends to scratch easily. But, lay down a portable cutting board and you’re good to go! It does require some maintenance, with a good oil rubbing required every so often to keep up its appearance. Cost (including installation): $30-$100 per square foot.
Marble
Always a high-end classic, marble features prominently in today’s countertop trends as well. The quality of marble used determines how much it costs to add to your kitchen design. They also require a lot of maintenance because they tend to scratch easily and can crack if you use force on the surface. Cost (including installation): $25-$220 per square foot.
All of these kitchen countertop trends tend to cost close to the same, with the exception of marble. Depending on the size (slab or pieces) and quality of granite you use, installation for that costs between $25 and $170 per square foot.
