As residents of Lake Havasu City, we are incredibly fortunate. With the thousands of acres of untouched BLM land that surround us and, of course, the lake for which our city was named, there is always an opportunity to enjoy nature up close and personal. The Arizona Fish and Game Department along with the US Fish and Wildlife Service are holding a free Friends and Family Fun Day near Lake Havasu this Saturday, April 13th to encourage children and adults to enjoy outdoor activities in a safe manner.
Beginning at 9am, the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge (located at 60911 Hwy 95 near Lake Havasu City) will be the site of some serious fishing and archery fun. Archery equipment will be provided at no cost. A special range will be set up specifically for kids ages 3-6 to learn the safety and proper technique of using a bow and arrow. Lake Havasu City kids can learn all about fishing at the Youth Fishing Clinic. You can bring your own equipment or use the rods and reels available on-site. Additionally, adults and children alike can go birding, hiking and make crafts. A canoe/kayak trip is planned on the river at 8am but participants will need to bring their own boat.
To get to the Lake Havasu Friends and Family Fun Day from Lake Havasu City, you will need to travel south on Hwy 95 until you pass over the Bill Williams River. About 1/2 a mile past that on the right, at mile marker 161, you can park at the visitor center. All activities are provided absolutely free of charge. You just need to show up.
